Homeowner Fights Off Home Invaders With Shotgun

A thwarted home invasion left two would-be robbers in the hospital, courtesy of buckshot from the homeowners’ shotgun.

Police responding to a 911 call in Colleton County, S.C., pulled over a jeep racing out of the area after a reported break-in and gunfire. The driver said he had fled a nearby home where two men had stormed in, and when deputies arrived at the residence three other occupants were found unharmed.

Officers said one of the residents had been in a bedroom when he heard a commotion in the living room—and when he went to investigate, he saw two armed men wearing bandanas over their faces. He then fired at the suspects with his father’s shotgun, but wasn’t sure he had hit the men who escaped on foot. That question was quickly answered as two individuals were admitted to a local trauma center with shotgun injuries. One suspect was arrested immediately; the other is still in recovery.
