Will Gun Control Backfire On Democrats This Election Day?

Will gun control be a factor in the 2016 elections? The Democrats seem to think so. Presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton has long made it one of her key campaign platforms, and now others in the party are following her lead—they’ve apparently determined it’s an issue to run on and are moving full speed ahead stumping for gun control.

There’s just one small problem: Only 1 percent of Americans think it’s the nation’s most important problem. A Gallup poll shows that citizens consider issues like the economy, dissatisfaction with government, unemployment, immigration and national security as far greater problems facing our country today.

If gun control does end up being a driver in the election, the Democrats should be forewarned. “Draconian gun control at every level of government has really energized [people] to vote against Hillary Clinton and down the ballot,” noted Jennifer Baker, director of public affairs for the NRA.
