The name of the new Fox TV show is “Lethal Weapon”; however, the network says it will avoid showing guns on promotional posters. And that’s certainly a change from the first four posters of Mel Gibson’s movie series.
Is this how Fox is helping “stop gun violence?”
The hypocrisy seems to be dripping—especially as the first promotional trailer for the next installment of Fox’s series “24” (now “24: Legacy”) has come out with guns blazing in multiple scenes. And that’s a show that typically had Jack Bauer holding a firearm on the poster. “We’re trying to focus on the characters, not on guns or the violence, in the show. You have to hit a balance,” Fox chairman Dana Walden told Entertainment Weekly magazine.
Fox calls this “modulating gun violence.” However, the balance appears to be taking guns off printed material for an insincere media narrative, while brandishing firearms in a reckless and violent manner as standard broadcast procedure.
