Corban, Okafor Participate In RedState Gathering Panel

posted on August 16, 2016

Kimberly Corban is a rape survivor. Antonia Okafor is the southwest regional director of Students for Concealed Carry. Together, they’re a powerful force for Second Amendment advocacy.

Corban and Okafor recently appeared at the eighth-annual RedState Gathering in Denver, Colo. The Townhall.com contributors participated in a panel to discuss the rising demographic of new gun owners—women. Corban shared why gun ownership is so deeply personal to her, and how a gun is a tool of empowerment and a great equalizer. Okafor, for her part, discussed the ongoing battle to expand Second Amendment rights on college campuses.

The overriding message from the panel was clear: Gun ownership is no longer just for men. Women are taking charge of their own personal safety by getting trained and buying firearms. In fact, between 2012 and 2016, women have obtained concealed-carry permits at twice the rate of men.
