Doctor’s Orders: Buying A Gun Should Be As Difficult As Becoming A Doctor

Writing in the Medical Economics blog, Doctor Monya De claims that semi-automatic rifles “amount to a license to kill,” and that buying a firearm should be as hard as becoming a doctor. Gun purchasers, she says, should be forced to “pass difficult tests ... write essays about why they should receive this privilege ... [and] do hours of service with children orphaned by guns.”

That might sound good to someone who hangs a sheepskin shingle to show us how much more educated, capable and responsible she is than us. But if you look beyond her supposedly superior credentials, you’ll see that through so-called “medical misadventures,” doctors kill between four and nine times as many Americans as are killed in firearm homicides every year.

So before any more doctors try to deny us the ability to survive criminal attacks, maybe they should look at the costs of their own proscriptions.
