Missouri Gun-Control Lobby Working Overtime To Prevent Override On Permitless Carry

posted on August 18, 2016

Back in June, Democratic Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon vetoed a gun measure, Senate Bill 656, that would have allowed “permitless” carry in the state. Despite having passed the legislature with overwhelming support, Nixon claimed the bill would result in “dramatic steps backward for public safety.”

Next month, the Missouri General Assembly is scheduled to reconvene for a veto session in which pro-gun lawmakers will work to override the governor’s veto. It’s drawn the attention of Michael Bloomberg, who has his anti-gun groups Everytown and Moms Demand Action claiming that SB 656 will allow someone who isn’t legally allowed to own a gun to carry a gun. Of course, this is simply untrue—but these groups have never let a small thing like facts stand in the way.
