We told you last week about how those who hate gun raffles actually just despise the fact that Americans have the freedom to own firearms. Now we have learned that one raffle hater, despite raising holy hell, isn’t getting her way.
The Alamogordo Daily News reported that the United Way of Otero County, N.M., has confirmed that it received permission from United Way Worldwide to continue raffle sales, despite demands by New Mexicans to Prevent Gun Violence Co-President Miranda Viscoli that the raffle be cut short.
“I think they realized that there were a lot of charters nationwide that were doing gun raffles,” Western True Value Store Manager Kerry Maupin, who is donating the guns, told the News, adding that “maybe instead of everyone else bowing down to her beliefs and opinion, she needs to back down. We fought hard and the people spoke up.”
Winners of the raffle, like other gun raffles throughout the United States, will be required to pass an FBI background check before receiving their firearms.
