“Wyoming is a firearms state, and we are proud of that.”
With that, Gov. Matt Mead signed a proclamation declaring “Wyoming’s Day at the Range” and launched three initiatives to encourage shooting sports statewide. The proposals include:
The Open Ranges Initiative—enabling local partnerships to increase access to public shooting ranges;
The Wyoming 100 Initiative—an amateur-level competition to recognize Wyoming’s top 100 shooters; and
The Governor’s Match—a national 2-gun (semi-automatic rifle and pistol) match featuring some of the country’s best competitors.
Mead continued, “These initiatives promote safe shooting and participation in shooting sports—whether hunting, target shooting or sanctioned competitions. Working with the Game and Fish Department, the National Rifle Association, the firearms industry and local governments, we hope to open more opportunity for people to shoot safely.” Mead also noted that Wyoming has a growing firearms industry. “They are helping to diversify our economy—we are glad to have them here.”
