Wyoming: Most Guns Per Capita, Low Crime, Happy Cops

posted on August 6, 2016

With more guns per capita than any other state, those who have spent time listening to anti-gun politicians or the so-called “mainstream” media probably expect crime in Wyoming to be out of control. In reality, however, the state’s per-capita gun-related murder rate is below the national average.

Park County Sheriff Scott Steward recently told CBS News that non-gun-owners “are very much in the minority”—and among those who do own guns, “The low end’s going to be probably four to five [per household], high end’s going to be anywhere from 100 to more.”

While the media tries to claim more guns mean more danger to law enforcement, Steward is grateful for the backup. “We might have three [deputies] on duty in the county to cover 6,000 square miles,” he said. “Sometimes you can have a deputy on one side of the county get a call 40 miles away. Chances are, he’s not gonna get there to intervene.” Consequently, Steward says he’s glad that, in his county of 29,000, he signs around 25 concealed-carry permits a week. “The more concealed-carry permits, the safer we are.”
