A man was dropping off a friend from work in the small town of Granite City, Ill.—just northeast of St. Louis—when another individual approached his car and attempted a robbery. Detectives say that’s when the victim, who had been driving the car, was able to grab his concealed weapon. The man fired and struck the attacker, halting the robbery.
Investigators are saying the actions of the man with the carry permit and firearm probably saved his life. A local resident summed up the feelings of the stunned neighborhood, “I was nervous. You don’t know where the bullets are flying. You hear this every day. People just sitting on the porch and shot and killed, just from the wild fire.”
The investigation is ongoing, and the district attorney’s office has yet to say what charges may be filed against the suspect, who is still in the hospital being treated for gunshot wounds.
