In response to a Democratic presidential debate question on Oct. 13, 2015, Hillary Clinton put the 5 million members of the NRA at the top of the list of enemies she is most proud of.
This is unprecedented: On national television, a candidate for president of the United States named peaceable, law-abiding gun owners, who are simply trying to protect the Second Amendment, as her biggest enemies. She even listed NRA members ahead of Iran—the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism. Drug cartels, Vladimir Putin, North Korea and ISIS terrorists didn’t even get a mention.
Clinton’s declaration made us wonder how NRA members feel about being recklessly declared her enemy. So we decided to ask them: How does it feel to be named Public Enemy Number 1 by Hillary Clinton?
Today we hear from Kim Rhode, an American double trap and skeet shooter and a six-time Olympic medal winner, including three gold medals, as well as a six-time national champion in double trap.
To use her own words, I find it “deplorable” that Hillary Clinton has named the 5 million members of the NRA as Public Enemy Number 1. Shooting has been passed down in my family for generations and it has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I took the NRA safety class when I was 10 years old, and this started my competitive shooting career. I’m shocked to find out that after representing my country in six Olympic games, I’m now considered Public Enemy Number One by Clinton simply because I’m a member of the NRA. At a time when our country is reeling with racial unrest, isn’t lumping 5 million Americans into one basket and labeling that basket “Public Enemy Number One,” just another form of prejudice?
So, how can a candidate that supports taking away these rights take an oath to uphold our Constitution? The Second Amendment states, “… the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” It is listed in the Bill of Rights. It’s a right, not a privilege or a benefit. It is a right, and any attempt to infringe on this right is unconstitutional. That’s not my rule. That’s not the NRA’s rule. This is part of the DNA of our country. From the founding of our country to now, thousands of patriots and heroes have lost their lives defending our Constitution and Bill of Rights. So, how can a candidate that supports taking away these rights take an oath to uphold our Constitution? Once we allow Hillary to infringe on our Second Amendment rights, where does it stop? It becomes a very slippery slope to then allow infringement on more of our rights.
Remember back some years ago when the Treasury Department tried to block Fox News from participating in an interview with Obama “Pay Czar” Kenneth Feinberg? The other networks and reporters stood firm and said if Fox News is not welcome to participate, they would not participate either. This is freedom of speech and is the very core of our Constitution and Bill of Rights. And it is the Second Amendment that ensures the rest of our rights are safe and can’t be taken away—especially our freedom of speech.
I also find it interesting that Hillary doesn’t look at the real causes of violent crime, like gangs, illegal drug trafficking, mental health problems and the breakdown of the family. She refuses to acknowledge terrorism and she won’t be able solve a problem that she doesn’t acknowledge exists.
It’s just easier to blame guns and gun owners.Hillary, with all her lies and deceit, is not the kind of leader my son can look up to.
My greatest fear is Hillary appointing several Supreme Court justices who think like she does. Not only will she be able to crush the Second Amendment, but she will then also be able to fundamentally change our country, our freedoms and our rights.
As a mother, I want to raise my son with high moral and ethical standards, the first of those being honesty. I want him to have examples of leadership that are morally and ethically honest and forthright. Hillary, with all her lies and deceit, is not the kind of leader my son can look up to. She is all about power and the prestige of being the first woman president. She is the “deplorable” one who believes that lying, taking money from foreign governments and taking away your constitutional rights is OK.
It has been demonstrated over and over again that our laws and standards do not apply to Hillary. Everyone knows, including her supporters, that if anyone else had done these things they would be in jail. So who is really “Public Enemy Number 1”?
Please vote on Nov. 8. And remember that not voting is a vote for Hillary.
