Illinois Gun Sales, Carry Permit Applications Jump

As gun sales continue to boom around the nation in the lead-up to November’s election, Illinois residents certainly can’t be accused of not doing their part to boost the numbers.

New reports indicate that more than 90,000 National Instant Background Check System (NICS) checks were conducted in August, triple the number performed during the month before. The number of checks also now stands as the most in a single month ever in the state since the background check system was implemented.

Additionally, concealed-carry applications in Illinois jumped from 190,581 in July to 198,287 last month—a 4-percent spike. It seems that while Chicago’s restrictive gun laws have resulted in carnage on the city’s mean streets, those in the rest of the state are realizing that they are the most effective protector of themselves and their families.
