Czech Citizens May See Firearm Freedom Diminished

posted on January 9, 2017

Wary of possible terror attacks by radical Islamists, the Czech Republic government is encouraging citizens to arm themselves against a possible “super-Holocaust.”

The country’s interior minister is also pushing a constitutional change that would let citizens use guns against terrorists if attacks occurred and police were delayed or unable to get to the scene.

The Czech Republic, with some of the most lenient gun laws in Europe, is home to about 300,000 people with gun licenses, who own some 800,000 firearms. Unfortunately for Czech citizens, however, rather than seeing rights increased, they’ll likely see them further restricted, thanks to recent reforms passed by the EU—reforms that were strongly opposed by the Czech government.
