This morning, NRATV’s Grant Stinchfield applauded Washington state lawmakers and NRA members for shutting down a bill that would’ve required a special license to obtain an AR-15-style firearm.
“It’s often more about what bills are killed by your lawmakers than what they offer up for a vote,” Stinchfield said. “In a world of overexpansive government, sometimes how many bills your lawmaker actually killed is when he’s doing more work for you.”
The measure, which died in committee and won’t receive a vote, would’ve also required more extensive background checks when buying an AR-15-style firearm. Another bill, which would have banned AR-15-style rifles altogether in Washington state, has also died.
The situation in Washington is a clear sign that, even in left-leaning states, gun owners hold tremendous power with their lawmakers. This is also a good reminder to keep in touch with your lawmakers, as these seemingly small victories can easily snowball into large-scale wins.
“Stinchfield” airs live on NRATV weekdays at the top of the hour from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. ET.
