KY: “Permitless” Carry Bill Improved By New Amendment

posted on February 24, 2017

A Kentucky state senator on Wednesday inserted an amendment into a critical self-defense bill, greatly improving the legislation to the benefit of law-abiding gun owners.

According to NRA-ILA, Democrat state Sen. Robin Webb’s amendment to Senate Bill 7 conforms SB7 to House Bill 316, the House version of the proposed “permitless” carry legislation. The measures would allow any law-abiding individual who can legally possess a firearm to carry a handgun for self-defense in Kentucky without having to obtain a permit to do so.

This legislation, like that under consideration in several other states, would keep the current permitting system in place so individuals who obtain a permit could still enjoy the reciprocity agreements that Kentucky has with other states.
