Restaurant Carry Bill Passed By Montana House, Headed To Senate

posted on February 28, 2017

The Montana House of Representatives on Thursday passed House Bill 494, which would allow law-abiding citizens to carry a firearm for self-defense while in restaurants where alcohol is not the main item of sale. Proponents in the House argued that the right to self-defense shouldn’t be prohibited because of any product the establishment is legally licensed to sell, and approved the measure with a 62-37 vote.

As NRA-ILA points out, an individual should not be prevented from carrying a firearm for self-defense while dining in a restaurant that serves alcohol. The right to self-defense should not be unnecessarily banned due to the presence of a product that is legally sold in an establishment that is licensed to do so.

The legislation is now with the Senate for committee referral.
