Antis Overstating Mass Shooting Numbers By Factor Of 10

Is it any wonder Americans have lost all faith in the mainstream media? First you have a CNN anchor comparing terrorism to random lightning strikes. That piece ironically ended as the network cut to breaking news of a terrorist attack that left 20 dead and another 50 wounded.

Now, you have all the usual liberal outlets—CNN, MSNBC, The New York Times, The Washington Post and more—citing stats from the “Mass Shooting Tracker” (MST). By MST’s own admission, “most of us support gun control.” And toward that end, they’ve elected to ignore the law enforcement definition of mass shooting and arbitrarily create their own.

The unsurprising result: They are overstating the number of mass shootings by a factor of 10, according to The Daily Caller News Foundation. Their findings show that of the 48 events cited by MST this January, only five of those concur with law enforcement’s definition of a mass shooting.

The most interesting stat of all? The places most likely to have mass shootings as determined by MST are those where Democrats control the state legislature.
