Maine Homeowner Shoots Intruder … Who Still Won’t Leave

posted on March 11, 2017

Ever hear the one about the guest that wouldn’t leave until you shot them? And they still wouldn’t leave?

In a bizarre turn, a Richmond, Maine, man used his gun to defend himself and his girlfriend from an intruder who walked through their front door. Trevor Whitney told WCSH-TV 6, “He just stares at me and I stare at him. I’m like ‘Who are you?’ and he goes, ‘Who are you?’”

Investigators say the intruder, 42-year-old Shad Hembree, lived down the street, but Whitney and his girlfriend, Lindsey Laevasseur, had never seen him before. After grabbing a gun, the homeowner persuaded the suspect to leave, but he came back later even more erratic, smashing a glass door. “We tried everything we could to get him out, so I mean—that was our last resort,” said Levasseur. Whitney then shot the intruder in the shoulder, but Hembree continued to stay and stumble around the home until police arrived.

The suspect was treated for a minor gunshot wound, then arrested for burglary.
