Gun owners need to get active in the fight to save our Second Amendment rights.
This feature appears in the April ‘17 issue of NRA America’s 1st Freedom, one of the official journals of the National Rifle Association.
Does your state representative know who you are? How about your state senator? Your congressman? Your U.S. senators? If not, there’s no better time to introduce yourself than right now, because I guarantee they’re hearing from the anti-gun activists where you live. Moms Demand Action is showing up at committee hearings and town halls, voicing their opposition to campus carry, constitutional carry and other pro-Second Amendment bills around the country. We need to make sure that our voices are being heard as well.
Our victory last November doesn’t automatically equate to wins in our state legislatures or in Congress. As NRA-ILA Executive Director Chris W. Cox told me recently on “Cam & Co.,” for the past eight years gun owners have been playing red-zone defense against the Obama administration. Now we’ve got the ball, and that means we’ve got a chance to get into the end zone, but in order to do that we all need to play our part in order to execute our game plan.
If you’re a gun owner, the first part of your game plan is to join the NRA. Get active. Sign up for your NRA-ILA Grassroots Alerts. Watch NRATV so you’re informed and up to date on the latest Second Amendment issues. And get to know your elected representatives. Help them understand why these issues are important to you, and encourage them to support good legislation and to defeat bad bills. If we want to win, we have to be engaged. Not next month, or next week, but right now.
