Gun Dealer Licensing Bill To Be Considered in Illinois House Committee Today

We told you recently about an anti-gun measure in Illinois that, if passed, could run many lawful gun dealers out of business. Today that bill is scheduled to be considered in the House Judiciary Committee.

According to NRA’s Institute for Legislative Action, Senate Bill 1657 creates an onerous gun dealer licensing scheme within the state and should be defeated. “While the purported intent of this legislation was to enhance ‘responsible business practices,’ this proposed legislation only proves that the intention is to close as many federally licensed firearm dealers (FFLs) as possible,” stated an ILA legislative update.

Trump Fires Anti-Gun Surgeon General

President Donald Trump has fired U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, the most anti-gun surgeon general in recent history.

In a statement, the Department of Health and Human Services said Murthy had been asked to resign, and that he would be replaced temporarily by Rear Adm. Sylvia Trent-Adams, the current deputy surgeon general.

Murthy’s gun control advocacy before being appointed to the position was not just expressed in terms of his personal opinion: He exploited his status as a doctor to suggest he arrived at his views based purely on scientific evidence. At the time of his hotly contested Senate confirmation hearing, NRA spokesperson Catherine Mortensen had said, “Murthy’s confirmation reminds our members and Second Amendment supporters everywhere, we must elect a pro-freedom president in 2016.”

Neighbor Stops Domestic Assault With Firearm

A Greenville, N.C., man used his gun to stop an attack on his neighbor by her ex-boyfriend.

According to local media reports, 30-year-old Tyree Raheem Barksdale was assaulting his 29-year-old ex-girlfriend when the assault spilled over into a neighbor’s yard. When the neighbor tried to intervene and stop the attack, Barksdale reportedly assaulted him, too.

The neighbor grabbed a gun and shot Barksdale in the leg, ending the encounter. Barksdale was transported to a nearby medical facility with injuries that were not life-threatening, according to authorities.
