W.V. Governor Signs Sunday Hunting Bill

posted on April 27, 2017

West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice on Tuesday signed a pro-hunting measure that will greatly expand Sunday hunting opportunities in the state.

Current law allows hunting on Sundays in some counties on some private lands. SB 345 expands Sunday hunting opportunities on private land with written permission.

While hunting is restricted in West Virginia in certain counties on Sundays, other activities such as fishing, hiking and target shooting remain perfectly legal. As NRA-ILA pointed out in a recent legislative alert, between work, school and other obligations, Sunday hunting bans discourage hunting at a time when hunter recruitment and participation must be encouraged in order to save our hunting heritage.

In a nutshell, restrictions on Sunday hunting effectively treat hunters as second-class citizens and tacitly endorse the view of animal rights extremists that there is something wrong with hunting.
