Maine Anti-Gun Legislation May Be Voted On This Week

posted on June 16, 2017

By week's end, the Maine Senate is hoping to vote on Legislative Document 351, an anti-gun bill allowing cities to stop gun owners from carrying a firearm during municipal public proceedings and in polling places.

As NRA-ILA noted in a legislative update, “Infringing upon your right to keep and bear arms at municipal proceedings and polling places would be a foot in the door for gun control advocates. First, they take away polling places. Next, they will forbid you to carry on the sidewalks in your home town.”

Currently, citizens can lawfully carry a firearm into a polling place and other public buildings where it is not prohibited under state or federal law. Legislative Document 351 takes away this constitutional right while the individual is exercising another—prohibiting the right to carry a firearm while voting.

Use Your Power!

NRA-ILA is urging members from Maine to contact their state senator and ask him or her to oppose LD 351. You can reach them by email by clicking here.
