Looking forward to the NRA Carry Guard Expo in August? Maybe you’d like to polish your skills before you take on the wide varieties of seminars and workshops available at the three-day personal defense experience. If so, then we’ve got good news: Level 1 of the NRA Carry Guard training is debuting this summer, and it promises to be like no training you’ve encountered before.
Based on the philosophy that “the best do the basics better,” NRA Carry Guard’s innovative training program aims to help students perfect the fundamentals of shooting and personal defense. This won’t be a program that leaves you at the end with a certificate of completion and a dubious feeling about what your level of competence really is. The Level 1 course is geared toward beginners, but not everyone will pass. Those who do will receive a scored performance report, allowing them to focus on areas that still need work before considering moving on to Level 2. This is not training for just anyone; it’s for you if you are truly committed to making your concealed-carry routine the best it can be.
NRATV’s Colion Noir and Dana Loesch both participated in a pilot version of the training program and couldn’t stop raving about how much they had learned. “You’ll walk out of it thinking you’re a ninja!” exclaimed Loesch.
Part of what makes the NRA Carry Guard training so revolutionary is that it is geared toward real-world scenarios rather than simply drilling targets on a range.Part of what makes the NRA Carry Guard training so revolutionary is that it is geared toward real-world scenarios rather than simply drilling targets on a range. Students will train with their preferred carry gun and will participate in extended low-light sessions and simulated use-of-force scenarios. They will test not just their shooting skills, but their ability to react correctly in a self-defense situation just as it would actually occur.
NRA Carry Guard Lead Instructor Jeff Houston will be heading up this series of classes—currently to be offered in Texas, Oklahoma and Colorado—throughout the summer and fall. Check the schedule here to find the class offering that best suits you. Sign-ups are available to all law-abiding gun owners.
This is truly the gold standard of firearms and defensive training, and participating in one of the summer classes will make your experience at the NRA Carry Guard Expo that much more meaningful. The event will be held from August 25-27 at the Wisconsin Center in Milwaukee. Tickets are open to the public and can be purchased here.
