“The National Rifle Association is gonna fight every day to continue to expand this preexisting freedom that we have and that’s the freedom to protect yourself and your family,” Cox said.
During his interview, the NRA-ILA Executive Director went into detail on the recent ruling on D.C.'s concealed carry law and the gun ban in Maryland. “They recognized that there were two rights that were equal with regards to the Second Amendment—the right to keep arms, and the right to bear arms,” Cox said. “That’s a significant ruling.”
The NRA’s chief lobbyist said that this is the logical next step in having the individual right to self-protection truly recognized. He also made clear that the fight is far from over.
“The NRA is gonna continue wherever the arena—in the public arena, in the legal courtrooms and the state legislatures across the country, and obviously on Capitol Hill—making sure that this right is not treated as a second class right,” Cox said. “The American people support us. But now it’s time for congress to act. It’s time for the courts to act, and that’s what we’re working towards every day.”
