Two young men, armed with guns, entered a Katy, Texas, home through the garage and walked straight into the residence, focused on a clean robbery. That’s when they encountered a 60-year-old grandmother—and her pistol.
Harris County, Texas, Deputy Thomas Gilliland told KTRK-TV, “She confronted both suspects, retrieved a handgun and fired several times.” One of the suspects was killed at the scene, while the accomplice jumped a fence and remains on the run. Investigators have yet to determine if this was a crime of opportunity, or if the home was targeted.
“From what we understand, it's a rental home but there are several people who live in the home. But this morning she was by herself,” Gilliland said. Neighbors are uneasy with the second suspect still at large, but neighbor Catherine Hanks says the grandmother did the right thing. “In the state of Texas, if you're gonna get on somebody’s property, you’re gonna get shot,” she said. “That’s Texas.”
