The NRA’s mission—in fact our duty and obligation—is to safeguard our Second Amendment-protected rights, including the foundational, constitutional right to carry. Not only must we restore, preserve and protect these rights for NRA’s vast membership, but we are the eminent guardian of those rights for all freedom-loving, law-abiding Americans.

In the furtherance of our mission and our cause, we are duty-bound to run NRA’s affairs like a business. Freedom isn’t free, and our business is restoring, protecting and preserving Second Amendment-protected rights and the freedom ensured by the exercise of those rights.

Whether you carry a firearm inside and/or outside the home, the NRA is working hard to give you the right tools, training and protection to exercise your Second Amendment-protected rights with confidence wherever you live or work.

It is a long-standing principle that a freedom well exercised is a freedom well preserved, and that simple dictum embraces our freedom to own, possess and carry firearms.

The right to carry is an essential element of our mission, and NRA began the battle to restore the right to carry in the early 1980s. NRA Carry Guard is a continuation of that mission and an extension of the incredible training and educational opportunities for our members that began when the NRA was founded in 1871. The NRA worked for decades to restore the Right to Carry, and now our mission is to provide you with the means to exercise that right responsibly.

In the mid-1980s, faced with the erosion of our constitutional right to carry, the NRA stepped up and took on the fight to enact Right-to-Carry legislation at the state level, beginning in Florida. Past NRA President Marion Hammer led the fight to get that legislation passed in Florida. It became model legislation for other states and now, after three decades of rigorous fighting, every state in the country recognizes the right of its law-abiding citizens to carry a firearm.

Having accomplished that part of our mission, we are now taking it further. The next step is NRA Carry Guard, which makes NRA-specialized Right-to-Carry training and protection available to every citizen who seeks to exercise that right. The NRA fought to restore that right and now the NRA is working to provide the best, most trusted training and protection in the world.

Since its inception, the NRA has always set the standard for training and educating America’s gun owners. It was the NRA’s founding principle and our members know, instinctively, they can trust NRA training. Our obligation is to continuously develop training programs in response to our members and the needs of America. NRA Carry Guard is our answer to that call.

NRA Carry Guard’s two-faceted program focuses on training in concealed carry while providing world-class insurance coverage to you, should you ever need to use your firearm in self-defense.

The NRA has developed a vast network of NRA-certified instructors who have diligently and dutifully delivered firearm safety training to Americans for decades. NRA leadership, as it has always done, is steadfastly dedicated to the relevant, real-world training that our members and fellow Americans need.

In fact, the NRA officers and our directors are committed to accomplishing this mission. It’s why we were elected. The NRA Board of Directors’ oath of office “to uphold, adhere and pursue the purposes and objectives” of the National Rifle Association of America is not taken lightly.

The NRA worked for decades to restore the right to carry, and now our mission is to provide you with the means to exercise that right responsibly to protect yourself, your family and your freedom. As we have since our founding in 1871, our fight for freedom goes where America’s needs lead us.

Continued training is a must for anyone who wants to carry a firearm for self-defense or defense of family. So we encourage you to keep training, hone your skills and gain the confidence necessary to safely and responsibly protect those you love.
