Teachers who carry firearms after completing basic police training would get a 5-percent pay raise under the proposed School Security Act of 2019 in North Carolina.
Calling the bill “a way to put a lot of security on the ground in our schools” was one of its sponsors Republication state Sen. Warren Daniel. “It's extremely costly to put a school resource officer in every school ... and there's a great shortage of the number of applicants to law enforcement agencies. This bill is an attempt to bridge that gap.”
However, the president of the North Carolina Association of Educators is against the bill.
