Bernard Freeman, a 46-year-old Houston rapper known as Bun B, was upstairs in his townhome at 5 p.m. in a gated community where he lives with his wife Queenie when she opened the door expecting to receive a package.

According to police, a 20-year-old masked man reportedly forced his way into the home, held her at gunpoint and wanted to go upstairs.

Fearing for her husband’s safety, she apparently offered the intruder her car keys and other possessions.

Police said the rapper heard the commotion, armed himself with a pistol and came downstairs. Inside an attached garage, Bun B allegedly found the intruder sitting in the driver’s seat of his wife’s car. The intruder reportedly turned toward the rapper and gunshots were exchanged.

Injured by a gunshot wound in his shoulder, the intruder “fled on foot, but the rapper chased him down and forced him to take his mask off,” according to police.

Police arrested the suspect, who was charged with two counts of aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon and one count of burglary with intent to commit a felony.

Bun B was not injured. His attorney said the intruder was seen allegedly looking to break into other homes on surveillance video and “happened to break into the wrong home.”

"Bun was courageous in the efforts to protect his wife, his wife was courageous in her efforts to protect him," noted the rapper’s attorney.
