National Wild Turkey Federation Helps Pass on Hunting Traditions, Safety Lessons to Kids

Firearm safety is important to all aspects of gun use. But it’s just as important to remind others and pass down the dearly loved and long-held traditions that have made America unique compared to other countries.

The National Wild Turkey Federation held a free workshop in Grand Junction, Colo., on March 24, to pass on the love of hunting, conservation ethics and firearm safety to kids in that area. The club had a BB Gun range as well as a turkey call workshop for children.

Clint Suskey, who was part of the teaching exercises, stressed the point of carrying on those traditions with younger generations.

Passing knowledge down keeps it alive and ensures, with proper instruction and adherence to safety standards, that others will come to appreciate and respect the heritage of hunting, sporting and shooting traditions.

“Some people don’t realize what hunting is about. They just say all you’re doing is going out and killing animals. It’s not just that, we’re hunting for our food,”said one of the youth participants at the event.
