Supreme Court Analyst: Loretta Lynch ‘Most Likely Candidate’ To Replace Scalia

posted on February 17, 2016

In the wake of the sudden death of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia—with Republicans urging President Barack Obama to let the next president nominate Scalia’s successor to avoid politicizing the issue in an election year, and Obama vowing to nominate a replacement “in due time”—a leading Supreme Court analyst says Attorney General Loretta Lynch is “the most likely candidate” to replace Justice Scalia.

Tom Goldstein, who hosts the authoritative SCOTUSblog.com website, said “The fact that Lynch was vetted so recently for attorney general also makes it practical for the president to nominate her in relatively short order.”

While other analysts have suggested that disgraced former Attorney General Eric Holder might be on Obama’s “short list” of possible nominees, for gun owners, Lynch—who seconds Obama’s support for semi-auto gun bans and wants to institutionalize his anti-gun executive orders—would likely be just as threatening to Second Amendment freedom.
