When you get a chance to review a Nighthawk pistol like the Counselor, you don’t say no. And so that is how I ended up testing the personal pistol of the Nighthawk’s CEO Mark Stone.

The idea of a daily carry pistol is now so common that it passes without notice in many circles. As the weather gets hot, those who do everyday carry look to find something smaller and lighter.

Mossberg, a well-known name for shotguns, moved into the semi-automatic pistol market last year with the MC1sc, a subcompact 9 mm. The MC1sc was a hit with concealed carriers, and a hard act to follow, but Mossberg has nonetheless one-upped themselves with the MC2c, a sharp-looking, compact, striker-fired 9 mm boasting some very thoughtful design details.

The Kimber Micro 9 Rapide (Black Ice) is one sharp-looking 9 mm concealed-carry pistol. When you have a whistle-worthy looker like this, you might want to take it out and show it off to others, which is why these are often called “barbecue guns” (though the range is probably a better place to show it off).

Different folks prefer different styles of handguns—that much is clear. But most folks who depend on a handgun for their job (and who are free to choose what gun they carry) either choose a high-capacity, striker-fired, polymer-framed gun, or they choose a high-capacity, metal-framed DA/SA gun.
