As we brace for impending battles for our freedom, it’s worth remembering what gun-control proponents fear most about Americans who cherish their God-given, and Second Amendment-protected, right to keep and bear arms.

What happens when the government limits the right to keep and bear arms to those who “need” it?

Not long after U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, a conservative lion on the Court, passed away in February of 2016, then-President Barack Obama nominated Merrick Garland, a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, to fill the vacancy left by Scalia.

In 2020, as concerns over COVID-19 and violent unrest gripped the nation, Americans demonstrated unprecedented support for their right to keep and bear arms. The FBI conducted a record-setting 39.6 million National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) checks in 2020.

If there is a silver lining to the horrors Vladimir Putin has inflicted upon the Ukrainian people, it is that they stood up to a tyrant and showed the world why, to really be free, the people need their right to keep and bear arms.

Almost as soon as the voting was over, President Biden once again said that he wants to sign a ban on pretty much every firearm sold in the U.S. Though he likely doesn't have the votes to do so in this Congress, this balance of power does give him some opportunities to go after our freedom.
