The gun-control proposals keep adding up in California. The latest comes courtesy of Assemblyman Miguel Santiago, D-Los Angeles, who wants the same limits put in place for long guns as are in place for handguns. His measure, AB 1674, would limit residents to buying a maximum of one rifle or shotgun per month.

Santiago finds it “mind-boggling” that a citizen can exercise their Second Amendment rights at will. He argues, “This is a common-sense solution to gun violence in California.”

The NRA, however, rightly noted that the bill will do nothing to prevent violence. “Criminals do, always have and will continue to acquire their firearms through illegal means, so they can stockpile as many as they like regardless of what laws are in effect,” NRA spokeswoman Amy Hunter said. “If policymakers were serious about reducing violence, they would focus on prosecuting gun crimes and keeping criminals off the streets.”
