A West Michigan homeowner gave an intruder more than he bargained for late last week.

According to police, Joanne Borsodi and three other people were inside her Bangor, Mich., home Friday evening when they heard someone trying to break into the house. Borsodi told local CBS affiliate WWMT that she grabbed her shotgun, and as the suspect entered the residence, he found himself staring down the barrel. She then held the suspect at gunpoint until police arrived.

“I grabbed the gun and told him to get out of the house,” she said to WWMT. “If someone wasn’t in the house, he could have snuck ... he could have killed us.” The suspect, identified as 28-year-old William Brewer, was arraigned Monday on felony assault and breaking-and-entering charges. “Their actions protected them, and also helped us in apprehending the suspect,” said Tommy Simpson, with the Bangor Police Department.
