"Gun Violence Conference" Slated In Advance Of NRA Meetings

posted on August 28, 2015

NRA holds its Annual Meetings & Exhibits in Louisville, Ky., next spring, but attendees won’t be the only ones visiting that town to talk about guns. A group called the Sowers of Justice Network plans to stage a “conference” on gun violence in the city on Sept. 26. Organizers said that the upcoming NRA event next spring “only heightens the awareness of the need for alternative pathways to gun violence.”

No one is actively calling this a push for gun control, but the event is said to feature shooting survivors and “proponents of common-sense gun regulations …  as well as people active in peacemaking.” While the event appears to be largely sponsored by church groups, a list of “endorsers” turns up the usual suspects: Moms Demand Action, the Brady Campaign. We seriously doubt attendance rivals that of the anti-gun rally that attempted to overshadow the Annual Meetings in Nashville—but only featured 150 protestors compared to the 70,000-plus NRA attendees.
