L.A. Council Passes “Safe Storage” Law

posted on October 29, 2015

In its seemingly never-ending quest to persecute law-abiding gun owners while ignoring violent criminals, the Los Angeles City Council has voted unanimously to require gun owners to store their firearms in locked containers or install trigger locks when not using them—rendering them useless for self-defense.

Violation of the law will be a misdemeanor. And while officials say there won’t be patrols checking homes to make sure the law is being obeyed, is there any doubt the council’s future plans could include such intrusions?

As the National Rifle Association pointed out, the ordinance is yet another misguided attempt by L.A. leaders to “just do something,” whether effective or not. “Law-abiding gun owners should be allowed to choose the safest storage options for their households,” the NRA said in a released statement. “This one-size-fits-all ordinance will do nothing to keep children safer, and only end up ensnaring law-abiding gun owners who choose to exercise their Second Amendment rights.”
