While the city’s stringent gun laws do their utmost to keep guns out of the hands of law-abiding citizens, some Chicago residents do legally carry concealed firearms these days. Such an armed citizen shut down an armed robbery in progress in a corner store on Saturday night.
The Chicago Tribune reports that a man walked up to the counter and showed a handgun to the employee at the register, announcing his intention to rob the establishment. He then pointed his firearm at a female employee who was walking up from the back of the store and ushered her back to the area she had come from. Likely fearing for the employee’s life, a customer drew his concealed fun and fired, killing the suspect.
Police confirmed that the armed citizen had the proper credentials to carry a concealed firearm inside the city.
Pennsylvania Gun Licensing Scheme Proposed
Democrat Pennsylvania State Sen. Art Haywood has proposed a law (SB 1029) requiring Pennsylvanians to obtain a license to own any handgun, in a “permit to purchase” scheme similar to those that have kept lawful citizens disarmed and defenseless against murder in New Jersey, New York and Illinois.
Licenses require 16 hours’ training, cost $50 in addition to training costs, take up to 45 days for approval and require renewal ($30) every five years. “No statement in the Second Amendment is related to individual self-defense,” Haywood said, channeling Hillary Clinton. Instead, Haywood says the constitutional right to own a gun was intended to defend slavery and forced segregation.
