The National Rifle Association has thrown its support behind President-elect Donald Trump’s selection for attorney general.

Chris W. Cox, executive director of NRA’s Institute for Legislative Action, said on Tuesday that U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions is an excellent choice for the AG’s office.

“On behalf of our 5 million members, we commend President-elect Donald Trump for nominating Sen. Jeff Sessions to be America's next attorney general,” Cox said. “This nomination sends a strong message to Second Amendment supporters that he is serious about protecting our constitutional freedoms. Jeff Sessions is a champion of our right to keep and bear arms, and we look forward to him making America great as our next attorney general.”

During his tenure in the U.S. Senate, Sessions’ support of America’s law-abiding gun owners has earned him an A+ rating from NRA’s Political Victory Fund.
