Michael Bloomberg’s The Trace Blames “Fake News” On NRA

posted on December 13, 2016

In a Dec. 12 post, The Trace blamed the rise of “fake news” on NRA

“Fake News” is the newest fad among those seeking to lay blame for Hillary Clinton’s defeat on something other than Hillary. And The Trace blames NRA for using it to undermine trust in so-called “mainstream” media: “Rather than critically evaluating articles for their correspondence to known facts, the NRA has long encouraged its audience to dismiss these reports and the outlets that produce them as irredeemably opposed to a cherished way of life.”

NRA knows all about fake news. For decades, we’ve countered fake news from “trusted” sources with facts, debunking “Saturday Night Specials,” “Cop-Killer Bullets” and “Assault Weapons.” (The same sources told us, “If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor” and, “Benghazi was caused by a video.”)

In fact, A1F deconstructed The Trace’s own fake news in a 17-part series earlier this year. If The Trace wants to debunk fake news, it can start by explaining how lobbyists, labor unions and a synagogue wound up on a list of “141 medical groups” promoting gun control.
