Millions in cash donations from out-of-state gun-control interests are already flooding Nevada in an attempt to influence voters to pass a controversial and flawed “universal” background check bill this November.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported Monday that Michael Bloomberg and his Everytown for Gun Safety contributed more than $2.8 million to Nevadans for Background Checks between 2014 and 2015, primarily in cash. In 2015 alone, Bloomberg was responsible for nearly $900,000 of the $1.15 million raised by the group. They spent nearly $600,000 of that money on D.C. political consultants and marketers, such as The Melman Group, Revolution Messaging and SKD Knickerbocker.

In contrast, NRA’s Nevadans For Freedom PAC raised $43,552 and spent $25,251 on advertising in 2015. The Nevada Firearms Coalition and its PAC spent $17,642 with Reno-based Amplify Relations.

The Review-Journal was told by both campaigns that “they are going to run a grassroots campaign.” But it’s clear one of the campaigns is actually astro-turf.
