Customer Shoots Man Who Killed Restaurant Manager

posted on May 5, 2017

Wednesday night at a little past 6 p.m., James Jones walked into the Zona Caliente Sports Bar and approached the manager, Cesar Perez. Police say Perez began talking to, then arguing with, Jones. That’s when Jones pulled a gun and shot the manager. Fortunately, there was a customer in the restaurant with his concealed handgun license—and his firearm.

Arlington Police Lt. Christopher Cook tells WFAA-TV that when the suspect walked in and approached Perez, “There was some type of altercation, things being said, and this man pulled out a gun and shot and killed the employee.” After Perez was shot, a customer at the other end of the bar drew his gun and fired, fatally striking Jones. Cook continued, “He made the decision to engage the shooter, fearing there would be other loss of life.”

A motive for the shooting was unclear, but investigators are interviewing witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage.
