Sen. Bill Nelson Gets Facts on Gang-Related Shooting Wrong

Surprise, surprise. Another gun control advocate  has misconstrued a tragic event  to drum up support for a ban on semi-automatic rifles like the AR-15.

Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla., either doesn’t care about the facts or will use any tragedy to restrict the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens. Such was the case recently when Nelson used a gang-related retaliatory murder in Liberty City, Fla. to blame an “assault weapon,” even though the shooting was committed with a handgun.

You’d think that Nelson would use the opportunity to call for an end to gang violence, but the purpose of the tweet was not the safety of his constituents or policy that would protect the community, but to continue his push to ban law-abiding Americans from owning certain semi-automatic rifles.

Even more troubling, Nelson refused to correct his tweet or apologize later when his inaccurate statement was revealed. Instead, he blamed state Rep. Kionne McGhee, himself a vocal anti-gun advocate, for the misinformation.

Of course, Nelson wasn’t about to correct himself, because that would interfere with the false narrative he supports. Or maybe spreading misinformation is just becoming a habit with Nelson, who has been cited in the past for spreading bad information when it suits his purpose.
