The San Diego County Gun Owners (SDCGO) is putting up money to prove that gun sales at shows are in full compliance with federal and state regulations. Though it’s working with one set of gun shows in particular, Crossroads of the West events at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, the point might well be made to disprove the gun control crowd’s assertion that transactions at gun shows are done off the record and therefore open the door for someone with a criminal background to buy guns.

Crossroads promotes a gun show at the fairgrounds five times per year, and it typically draws large crowds. Like clockwork, the anti-gunners spew misinformation about how firearm sales are conducted at the show. The SDCGO is stepping up to change that image.

“To advance their gun ban agenda, the protesters villainize gun owners and purposely spread misinformation that machine guns and assault weapons are sold at the gun show. These protesters also have claimed that there are no background checks or 10-day waiting periods for firearms purchased at the gun show. These claims are false,” the group said in a news release.

Now the group has made a challenge. If anyone can produce authenticated proof that patrons can buy guns that are banned in California, don’t undergo a background check, don’t have to comply with the waiting period, can buy machine guns, can buy a gun if they are underage or are buying guns without going through a federally licensed dealer, the SDCGO will donate $10,000 to the organization of the individual’s choosing.

If someone makes a claim about illegal sales without providing proof, that person has to sign a pledge to attend one of SDCGO’s educational seminars about the proper and safe way to use a firearm.
