California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) was recently gifted a SIG Sauer P365 X-Macro by podcaster Shawn Ryan and claimed he’s “not anti-gun at all” in the process, but he has reportedly been unable to accept the gift due to California’s notoriously anti-gun laws.

“This is fabulous. You know what, the last thing people would expect is that I respect this gift. I’m not anti-gun at all,” said Newsom. “I’m also deeply mindful and respectful of the Second Amendment and people’s Constitutional rights.”

Following the interview’s publication, a local news outlet published a piece authored by California Assemblyman Carl DeMaio (R).

“DeMaio’s office has now learned that off camera Newsom rejected the gift because of compliance rules and left the firearm behind in Tennessee. Newsom’s team has since admitted that the California anti-gun laws are so complicated that they have had to hire legal counsel to conduct a legal review,” reads the piece.

“First, he’ll need a background check, a Firearm Safety Certificate, a DROS submission, a 10-day waiting period, a safe storage affidavit, and don’t forget the special taxes,” DeMaio wrote. “And that’s before figuring out how to actually get the gun into California without committing a felony under his own rules,” said DeMaio.

“I’m asking for the full weight of the DOJ to guide the Governor through the painful, bureaucratic maze he built, because let’s be honest, he needs the help to navigate the mess he created,” DeMaio said.

The Golden State governor’s initial claims were laughable enough, and we thoroughly debunked them, but it is beyond parody that the self-professed “not anti-gun” Gov. Newsom is unable to accept the firearm thanks to his state’s laws.

As the NRA Institute for Legislative Action (ILA) noted, “Americans shouldn’t need to retain legal counsel, or the intervention of top-level state and federal officers, to exercise a constitutional right.”

President’s Column | What a Year It Has Been!

Wow! How fast a year has gone by since being elected president at the end of April last year! My first column was titled “It’s A New Day At The NRA,” and included the following:

Standing Guard | We Are the Good Citizens

I am a big believer in transparency. Each individual needs privacy from unconstitutional government intrusion—this especially includes what guns a law-abiding American citizen might own—but an association of freedom-loving citizens must be transparent.

U.S. v. Hemani Arguments

On March 2, the U.S. Supreme Court heard oral arguments in U.S. v. Hemani. The case involves a defendant who is fighting a federal indictment for possessing a firearm while being a marijuana user.

President’s Column | Getting You Up to Speed

A lot of things have occurred over the past month or so that not all members are completely aware of. I’ll use my column this month to update you on some important issues—transparency.

Standing Guard | The NRA Gathers to Celebrate Our Freedom

The momentum we’re seeing across the country is both encouraging and energizing. January opened with tremendous activity at the NRA booth during SHOT Show, where members, industry partners and supporters stopped by to connect, share ideas and reaffirm their commitment to freedom and the Second Amendment.

Port Authority Doubles Down on Constitution-Free Zone with High-Profile Arrest

As anyone who has passed a basic civics class knows, the U.S. Constitution is the supreme law of the land. All legislation and official government actions are subject to its limits.
