A Connecticut-based group, Do Not Stand Idly By, wants to start a grassroots effort to spur “smart gun” technology. Ironically, the group wants to use government purchasing power to accomplish it—the very opposite of “grassroots.”

U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., said, “This has to come from the bottom up; it has to be grassroots. We are the most consumer-driven country in the world. And there will be nothing so powerful as American gun owners and buyers seeking smart technology in the guns they buy.”

Blumenthal is 100 percent right—which is exactly why there is currently no “smart” gun for sale in the United States. Despite the efforts of billionaire investors and mandate-minded politicians, American gun owners don’t want them, as demonstrated by the failed Armatix iP1

Pastor Anthony Bennett was apparently unaware of this contradiction when he called this “utilizing the free market,” and said, “(Government) will create a demand, just like in other industries.”

Pastor, the only way government creates a demand is by demanding we purchase something.
