A Selma, Ala., couple arrived home last Wednesday, pulled into the driveway, then saw a man appear at the driver’s side door—carrying a gun. The armed robber simply said, “Give it up.”

Selma Police Chief Spencer Collier relayed the fate of the robber to WSFA-TV: “As he approached the driver, he attempted to rob him and shot him, and after that, he went around to the passenger side and got the purse from the female. The male victim was able to produce his firearm, load it, and engage in gunfire to protect his life and the female’s life and killed the subject.

The suspect, 20-year-old Tyner Rose, was pronounced dead at the scene, and the male victim was treated and released from the hospital. District Attorney Michael Jackson doesn’t expect any charges to be filed in the shooting, telling reporters, “We’re going to stand behind victims who protect themselves.”
