Armed Senior Sends Home Invaders Scurrying

posted on September 5, 2015

Shawn Mulberry, 34, was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of attempting to burglarize a home. The Oakland man, along with an accomplice, had broken into an El Cerrito home just before noon. They likely weren’t expecting what they found.

As they broke in through the back door and entered the residence, standing in front of them was an 85-year-old man. An 85-year-old armed man. When he met the intruders face-to-face, the homeowner began firing, hitting Mulberry in the head. Both men immediately fled, and Mulberry was later picked up by police. He was transported to the hospital, where he remains in critical condition. The second suspect remains at large.
