The past six months have featured record-breaking numbers of firearms sold in the United States, and it doesn’t appear that the trend is slowing down. While the number of background checks reported from Black Friday gun sales in 2014 was an unprecedented 175,000, FBI spokesman Stephen Fischer predicted roughly 190,000 for 2015.This would translate into more than two checks per second over the 24-hour period.
The number of background checks does not indicate how many actual guns were sold, just the number of individuals who bought them. If many customers bought multiple guns at Black Friday sale prices, the numbers could be far higher than what FBI statistics suggest.
