Book Details Charlton Heston’s Shunning Over NRA Advocacy

posted on March 22, 2017

He was a larger-than-life screen legend who appeared in blockbusters like “The Ten Commandments,” “Ben Hur,” “Planet of the Apes,” “Touch of Evil” and “El Cid.” But it was another role that Charlton Heston took—one outside of Hollywood—that ultimately cost him jobs and accolades.

Fraser Heston talks about his father in a new biography by Marc Eliot titled Charlton Heston: Hollywood’s Last Icon. As HeatStreet reports, Heston was rejected by liberal elites over his conservative views and role as five-term president of the NRA.

“It was the Hollywood press and the glitterati that shunned him,” said Fraser. “It was almost as if he was backing something like child molestation rather than the Second Amendment.” Heston’s adopted daughter Holly Ann Heston concurred, noting, “Dad lost jobs because of his politics, there was no question, and he was okay about it.”
