California Gun Owners Pushing Back Against New Laws

California gun owners continue to fight back against the punitively restrictive package of gun-control laws passed by California’s anti-gun legislators and signed earlier this summer by Gov. Jerry Brown.

Veto Gunmageddon is currently circulating petitions to put an initiative on the ballot to kill the measures, which target law-abiding gun owners while ignoring criminals. According to a recent report in the San Jose Mercury-News, the group has until Sept. 29 to collect the nearly 366,000 signatures needed for voters to be able to weigh in on the laws.

If the petition drive is successful, the laws could be placed on hold until they come to a vote in 2018. Among other things, the laws reclassify hundreds of thousands of legally owned semi-automatic rifles as “assault weapons,” make it illegal to loan firearms to anyone other than family members without going through a dealer, require registration of all ammunition purchases, and ban the possession of magazines that will hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition.
